CAUSATIVE VERB & QUESTION TAGS

Causative Verb

Adalah verb (kata kerja) yang digunakan untuk menunjukkan bahwa suatu hal dilakukan oleh seseorang atas kehendak orang lain. Dalam hal ini causative verbs yaitu:

1        Have (menyuruh)

Active Form

Subject + Have (any tenses and any form) + object + bare infinitive

Example: They have their children wash the car

They don’t have their children wash the car

They didn’t have their children wash the car

Passive Form

Subject + Have (any tenses and any form) + object + past participle

Example: We have the work finished on time

We have the meeting provided earlier

We have the computer repaired

2        Get (menyuruh)

Active Form

Subject + get (any tenses and any form) + object + (to) infinitive

Example: She gets the children to wash the car

He don’t get the children to wash the car

I didn’t get he children to wash the car

Passive Form

Subject + get (any tenses and any form) + object + past participle

Example: Rouge gets the work finished on time

We get the meeting provided earlier

Smith gets the computer repaired

3        Make (menyuruh; more stronger than have or get)

Active Form

Subject + make (any tenses and any form) + object + bare infinitive

Example: Harmonie makes them sign this document

Harry makes his employers do the work based on deadline

Hagrid made them try to work on time

Passive Form

Subject + make (any tenses and any form) + object + past participle

Example: Bronson made the document burned

You make us satisfied

She makes one of us killed

4        Let (membiarkan/memberi izin)

Rumus:

Subject + let (any tenses and any form) + object + bare infinitive

Example: Their family let me tell the truth to her

Her parents let me get lecture in Canada

Mary let them tell me what we want to do                        

5        Allow (mengizinkan)

Rumus:

Subject + allow (any tenses and any form) + object + (to) infinitive

Example: Their family allows me to tell the truth to her

Her parents allow me to get lecture in Canada

Mary allows them to tell me what we want to do

6        Permit (mengizinkan)

Rumus:

Subject + permit (any tenses and any form) + object + bare infinitive

Example: Their family permits me to tell the truth to her

Her parents permit me to get lecture in Canada

Mary permits them to tell me what we want to do

7        Help (menolong)

Rumus:

Subject + help (any tenses and any form) + object + bare infinitive

Example: Susan helped me bring the suit case

Andrea helps me find my way

They help their friends apply for job

atau

Subject + help (any tenses and any form) + object + (to) infinitive

Example: Susan helped me to bring the suit case

Andrea helps me to find my way

They help their friends to apply for job

 

Question Tags

 

Adalah suatu kata/ungkapan yang digunakan oleh seseorang untuk memberikan pernyataan dan memnta orang lain untuk menyetujui pendapatnya.

Dalam bahasa kita dikenal dengan susunan seperti contoh berikut: kamu orang sundah, bukan?

Untuk membentuk Question Tags, ada beberapa pedoman yang perlu diperhatikan sebagaimana akan disebutkan di bawah ini.

1        Apabila pernyataan berbentuk positive form, maka Question Tags-nya berbentuk Negative.

Ex: You understand, don’t you?

She came to the park, didn’t she?

They are spooky busters, aren’t they?

2        Apabila pernyataan berbentuk negative form, maka Question Tags-nya berbentuk positive.

Ex: He doesn’t trust you, does he?

We didn’t make disturbance, did we?

I wasn’t one of their tribe, was I?

3        Apabila pernyataan menggunakan modal dalam bentuk positive form, maka Question Tags-nya menggunakan modal dalam bentuk Negative.

Ex: You should come to the house, shouldn’t you?

They must stand and fight for, mustn’t they?

We can devote our life, can’t we?

4        Apabila pernyataan menggunakan modal dalam bentuk negative form, maka Question Tags-nya menggunakan modal dalam bentuk positive.

Ex: Alice may not come on time, mayn’t she?

Peter couldn’t come to our meeting, could he?

Jane mustn’t believe her faith, must she?

5        Untuk kalimat Imperative (baik positive imperative atau negative imperative), question Tags-nya menggunakan “Will you”.

Ex: Don’t say anything, will you?

Come tou my shoulder, will you?

Make me trust you, will you?

6        Untuk kalimat ajakan “Let’s/ Let us”, mqustion Tags-nya menggunakan “Shall we”.

Ex: Let’s change the world, shall we?

Let’s try to do our best, shall we?

Let’s convince the, shall we?

Important Note

1        Kata yang digunakan dalam question tags yaitu; They, We, You, I, She, He, It

  1. It biasanya digunakan dalam question tags untuk menunjuk pada kata-kata seperti: everything, nothing, this, that, his, your, etc.

Ex:       nothing is impossible, isn’t it?

This is my new style, isn’t it?

That wasn’t I meant, was it?

  1. They biasanya digunakan dalam Qestion Tags untuk menunjuk pada kata-kata seperti: everyone, someone, somebody, noone, nobody etc.

Ex:       No body called my name, did they?

Some body looks for me, do they?

Everyone is glad, are they?

2        Untuk pernyataan I am ……., Question Tags-nya adalah “Aren’t I

Ex: I am your lord, aren’t I?

I am the only one you love, aren’t I?

I am everything that plays on your mind, aren’t I?

3        Kata-kata yang mengandung arti negative atau hampir negative seperti Never, Seldom, Hardly, Few, No, None etc. maka Question Tags-nya menggunakan bentuk Positive Form.

Ex: She seldom did something like this, didn’t she?

I have never seen him, haven’t I?

I can hardly believe what she said, can’t I?

4        Dalam membentuk question tags, kita harus benar-benar teliti. Berikut ada kata-kata yang kalau kita tidak teliti bisa keliru.

  1. Would rather

She’d rather stay here, wouldn’t she?

  1. Had better

She’d better stay here, hadn’t she?

  1. Had + past participle/V-3

She’d stayed here, hadn’t she?

  1. Should + V-1

She’d stay here, shouldn’t she?

  1. Would + like + V-1

She’d like to stay here, wouldn’t she?

A.    Membenarkan

1        You are working in a restaurant, aren’t you?

Yes, I am

2        We are not employers, are you?

No, we are not.

B.     Menyangkal

1        Lindsay will try to make a company, won’t she?

No, she won’t

2        Kate doesn’t try to understand her boyfriend, does she?

Yes, she does
